Brian Akehurst, CSP
President
Brian is Co-Owner of Akehurst Landscape Service, Inc., Joppa, MD. The Akehurst family celebrated its 125th year in the professional horticultural business in 2001, and today the business offers its clientele a wide range of professional services: design and planning; landscape construction and installation; grounds maintenance and interior plantscaping; as well as holiday décor services and snow and ice removal.

Daniel Gilliland, CSP
Vice President
Daniel Gilliland is the owner of SnowFighters US, based in Belton, MO, which services commercial properties in the Kansas City area. Daniel also owns Crew Tracker Software, a real-time tracking software system for snow & ice management companies. He also serves on the SIMA Certification Committee and is a 2008 recipient of the SIMA Volunteer of the Year award.

Jim Hornung, Jr., CSP
Secretary/Treasurer
Jim Hornung Jr., CSP, is the Vice President of Elbers Landscape Service, Inc., a family owned business established in 1919 located in Buffalo, NY. He has worked in the landscape & snowplow industry for over 13 years and manages a full time staff of 15 & a seasonal staff of up to 45 with sales in excess of 1.75 million. He received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration in 2003 from Canisius College. Jim earned his Certified Snow Professional status in June 2006 and currently serves at the Co-Chair of the SIMA Symposium Planning Committee. Jim was the 2008 recipient of SIMA's Volunteer of the Year award.

Larry Dail, CSP

Larry has been in the snow business since 1982 in several aspects. Starting as an employee, then a self employed sub, now as a business owner that utilizes many subs. AAA Outdoor Services Inc., specializes in "Maintaining a clear and safe passage for your employees and customers during the snow season". The focus of the business is 24 hour a day, 7 day a week clear passage, no matter what the weather conditions are presenting.

Director
Mike, CEO of Customers Outdoor Services, has been in the landscape maintenance and snow removal business since 1988. Guided by the motto that "OUR CUSTOMERS ALWAYS COME FIRST," Customers Outdoor Services has grown into one of the premier outdoor property maintenance companies in southeast Michigan specializing in Landscape Construction, Landscape Maintenance, and Snow and Ice Management.

Craig Kemmerling

Craig Kemmerling is National Sales Manager for the Louis Berkman Work Products Co.. Craig has demonstrated his ability to “drive” sales with a strong knowledge of the Meyer, Swenson & Magnum product lines and tremendous application knowledge and “know-how” in the Work Truck industry. Craig is a 4-year veteran of the snow and ice control business (Meyer & Swenson), most recently Business Development Manager. Prior to Meyer and Swenson, Craig spent over ten years in the outdoor power equipment business with OPE dealerships and MTD.

Jim Monk, CSP
Director
Jim Monk is President and owner of Markham Property Services Ltd. in Toronto, Canada. Jim entered the green industry as a high school student in 1986, mowing lawns each summer to finance university and several winters of traveling. In an attempt to avoid getting a "real job", Jim began providing snow and ice management services in 1993, and has since grown MPS into a year-round organization employing 40 staff. Jim is a CSP, and lives outside Toronto with his wife and three daughters.

Rich Arlington III, CSP, CLP
Director
For over 20 seasons Rich Arlington, III, CSP, has directed snow and ice operations of Arlington Lawn Care in Erie, Pennsylvania, which is one of the most unpredictable locations in the United States given its location on Lake Erie. He is the Business Manager of Affiliated Grounds Maintenace Group Inc. (AGMG), a national outdoor maintenance company with current contract management in 7 states. Contracts cover Snow & Ice, Landscape Maintenance, and Lot Sweeping. Rich also serves as an expert through Rich Arlington & Associates, Inc. on issues dealing with ice control with both rock salt and liquid calcium/magnesium products, which has resulted in over 20 years of no at fault slip and fall incidents for my company while maintaining over 150 accounts from large retail plazas to small convenience stores.

Norm Van Duyn
Director
Norm Van Duyn is the Owner/Area Manager of four Clintar Groundskeeping Services franchises in the Toronto, ON area. Norm has worked in the landscape and snow & ice industry since 1980, with 23 years experience as an owner. He and his wife are also members and volunteers with the Porsche Club of America, volunteering time for race events.

Brian Churchill, CSP, is the Vice President of The GroundsKeeper Inc., in Ashland, MA. Brian has an Associates Degree in Landscape Contracting, is a member of the SIMA Certification Committee, and holds memberships in the Associated Landscape Contractors of Massachusetts, PLANET, and the Community Association Institute.

Michael Anderson, CSP
Director
Mike is the President of Snow and Ice Pros Inc. a snow & ice management only company based in Highland, Indiana. He was the first person in Indiana to receive the Certified Snow Professional designation. With SIMA, he has been a member of the Education Committee, Membership Committee, and serves as a SIMA Buddy & mentor. He has taught classes on marketing and parking lot measurements. Mike earned his B.S. in accounting from Marquette University.

Mike Mason, CSP
Director
Mike is the Vice President of The Lawn Pro in Louisville, Kentucky. Mike serves as the Co-Chair of the Symposium Committee and helped developed and is a speaker for SIMA's popular Build A Bid program. In 2009 he served on the Contracts Review Task Force and was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award. He has a degree in Finance from the University of Louisville.

Derek Ossian
Director - Associate Representative
Derek is the Director of Operations at Ossian, Inc. based in Davenport, Iowa. For over 35 years Ossian has committed itself to leading de-icer technology and operates the most active private de-icing lab in the United States. As one half of the second generation at Ossian, Derek has dedicated himself and the company to leading the way in the development of bio-based de-icers and liquid anti-icing education. Derek serves on the SIMA Communication Committee and is working to bring Ossian’s extensive educational material to the SIMA membership through webinars and symposium speakers.
